The Mysterious Mayans.
Down below there is a map of the Mayan civilization
The Mayan geography was two things, very simple and also very harsh temperatures to work with. The geography challenged all the farmers, hunters, and traders. There was only two types of weather. Extremely hot or unbearably cold. That made it challenging for farmers to harvest crops. They would have to plant just at the right time so they can have food. It was also very dangerous to hunt. This was because there were very anger outs animals like jaguars, sharks (bull), and crocodiles. There were also many types of poisonous snakes that roamed were the Mayans settled. That made it a struggle to hunt for food. Which led to trade. For the most part trading was carried out ok. The trade route was spread all over Mesoamerica. They traded corn, squash, beans, and many other food items. The to amount of time depending on where you were trading. If you were trading to a local family member it wouldn't take that long. But there were also trade routes that went very far. Some almost have more then three days of travel. But they didn't only trade crops. They also traded their knowledge. They spread their culture around their land. The Mayans weather did play a very big part in their everyday life. (American Indian Heritage Foundation)
Trade in the Mayan civilization was very mysterious. The Mayans did not actually trade using the currency of money like most of the other civilizations that we have studied. Instead they used riches such as jade, gold, and etc. The Mayans traded many things. The items they traded like tools, clothes, pottery, salt, and gold, helped them to created raw material. Rome also used raw materials to make different things. In many ways were the two very similar. ayans also had this system called Prestige trade. That means they traded jewels like jade, gold, obsidian, raw material, and volcanic rock. They would use the trade routes down below. (American Indian Heritage Foundation)

The Mayan people were religious. They based many things on their religion. They had many gods and goddesses. Their civilization was revolving around their gods and goddesses. Just like the Islamic religion they would fast and pray. They were very religion based. Similar to the Islamic religion, the Mayans would hold different types of ceremonies to honor their different gods and goddesses. That what kept there civilization in tact. As for their government, they had a system called priesthood. They were the rulers of the different regions they dominated. To chose new members they would use a system called nepotism. This helped decided who would be a member of the government. Which is kind of what they do in Spain now to pick a priest. On the other hand the main ruler can be passed down generation like most ruler ships. (Hageman, Jon B)
In this picture it shows the Mayan people preforming a religious ceremony.
